Why virtual addiction treatment matters in West Virginia

Between January 2024 and January 2025, 787 West Virginians died from drug overdoses, according to recent CDC data. Although that number is significantly less than the previous period, it doesn’t capture the full story. The missed birthdays, the empty seats at kitchen tables, the families who saw it coming but didn’t know where to turn.

In many towns, there’s no nearby clinic. Some people can’t take time off work or don’t have reliable transportation. Others worry about what it would mean to be seen walking into a treatment center. What neighbors might think and what employers might assume.

Telemedicine gives people the chance to get help without driving for hours or risking unwanted attention. It means having a private, judgment-free appointment from home. It means not missing work. Not needing childcare. Not feeling exposed or ashamed. For many, it’s the difference between delaying care and finally saying, “I’m ready.”

We believe treatment should meet people where they are, especially in places where the need is great and the resources are few.
